How to Program a 2005 Toyota Corolla Remote Keyless Entry

How to Program a 2005 Toyota Corolla Remote Keyless Entry

You can program a spare or replacement keyless-entry remote for your 2005 Toyota Corolla without being in possession of a currently programmed remote to put the Corolla into its programming mode. That makes it different than other vehicles. The process to program the Corolla's keyless-entry remote is not difficult, but the procedure requires enacting a series of seemingly odd actions. It's best to read over the entire process to become familiar with the procedure before beginning.

Difficulty:
Moderate

Instructions

    • 1

Open the driver door. Sit in the driver's seat, but leave the driver door open. Insert your key into the ignition fully and quickly remove it. Insert it again and remove it again. Do not turn the key either time you insert it.

    • 2

Shut the driver door, then open it. Shut the driver door again and open it again. Insert the key back into the ignition fully and pull it out again.

    • 3

Shut the driver door and open it again. Then shut it again and open it again. Reinsert the key into the ignition and leave it in. Shut the driver door.

    • 4

Turn the key to "On" without starting the engine, and then turn it to "Off." Pull it out of the ignition. Listen for the door-lock mechanism to cycle. This lets you know the Corolla is in programming mode.

    • 5

Press and hold "Lock" and "Unlock" on the keyless-entry remote for about one and a half seconds. Release both buttons and immediately press and hold "Lock" (by itself) for two seconds. Release the "Lock" button. The door-lock mechanism will cycle. This lets you know the remote is programmed.
Repeat this step to program more than one remote during the same programming sequence.
